Letters of Recommendation

May 2014

I am writing this letter in follow up to Nimkiiā€™s performance during a school assembly for our JK-Gr. 6 students at Otonabee Valley P.S., and the small group workshops he lead throughout the remainder of the day for students in Gr. 2-6.

Nimkii exhibited a pride and confidence as he shared with the students about his native culture and traditions through stories, drumming and singing and then his hoop dance performance. The students were captivated from beginning to end.

Many students were inspired to learn how to hoop dance and were given the thrill and opportunity to learn a little during the small group workshops.

Many of our First Nations students self-identify, and they revealed an increase in pride and wanting to make that connection with Nimkii either directly or through class conversation afterwards.

The response from the children in the days that followed was all very positive. All aspects of his presentation were complimented

It was a pleasure to meet Nimkii. Staff, students and guests were all very captivated by his performance. I would recommend to others who have not had an opportunity to see his presentation to seek out the chance to do so.
